British console manufacturers Audient, have just released two innovative products aimed at the project studio user. The iD14 bus-powered desktop USB 2.0 interface, and the ASP 800 which is an 8 channel single rack-unit microphone preamp. Both of these new additions from Audient are similar to their successful iD22 interface and ASP880 preamp.
However Audient have implemented intelligent newly designed features, creating two unique new products that really do stand out in a highly competitive market place.
The iD14 is a 10 x input 4 x output desktop USB audio interface. Key features include 2 of Audient’s classic “console preamps” - which they claim to be the highest quality pre-amp in an interface of it’s class. High quality Burr-Brown analogue convertors and a JFET D.I instrument input, along with 1 x ADAT input for expandability. The “Scroll Control” mode - a newly designed feature of the master encoder that allows interaction with your DAW, plug-ins and even other apps such as iTunes, make this a refreshingly unique product in the populated small format USB audio interface market.
The ASP800 provides 8 of Audient’s world renown console microphone pre-amps, 118dB Burr-Brown A-D convertors, 15dB pads on each channel. Two of eight pre-amps are the newly designed “Retro Channels”, featuring added tone controls for “HMX” and “IRON”. These are essentially EQ parameters designed to create harmonic distortion, assimilated with the tone color produced by some tube microphone pre-amps. The ASP800 has digital connectivity being ADAT and Word-Clock enabled.
