NAMM 2017: Elektron Digitakt - New Drum Machine & Sampler

February 06, 2017 2 min read

Elektron Digitakt Rundown

Elektron have built a reputation for making some of the most unique and current Analog synths and drum machines but have done an about face and gone all Digital with their new Sampling Drum Machine the Digitakt

The Digitakt is a very compact and sturdy desktop module. Word from Elektron is that It features an 8 voice sampling drum machine, with an additional 8 channel MIDI sequencer attached to it for a total of 16 tracks to program drums.
Each track can be individually step sequenced, and includes a multi-mode filter and LFO per-track. It's unclear weather or not it has a sound generating synth-engine inside; although the filter's and LFO's allow for synth-like manipulation. We’ll have to wait and see for ourselves once in stock.

They are saying it is going to be about $600 - $650 US so with taxes and conversion expect to be paying about $1100 here in Australia. This is really a guess but I'm hoping that's what it will be.

Sampling & Overbridge

On the sampling side, the Digitakt has 64MB of RAM to load samples into, and a 1GB drive to store them. There are 2 x audio input jacks for connecting a range of different devices, and a bi-directional USB interface for audio streaming too. You can also re-sample your tracks within the unit itself for further manipulation.
Digitakt also has MIDI in, out and thru ports.

The screen on the Digitakt appears to be of a decent size for a compact device, and well illuminated for ease of use. Expect Elektron to announce VST and Overbridge compatibility in the near future too.

News from NAMM is that these will start to ship worldwide in April 2017. Stay tuned for more information and pricing in Australia.
