Analog mixers (also known as analog consoles), allow you to connect several different audio sources (such as microphones and instruments) and, at the very least, change the volume levels of each source independently. The incoming audio sources that are plugged into the mixer are then ‘summed’ to an output stereo (left/right) signal. Most mixers at least have gain control and some form of EQ. Some mixers have additional tools to manipulate incoming sounds further - such as filters, onboard effects (i.e reverb, delay), gate and compression.The benefit of Analog mixers is that they have high headroom and a purely analog signal path.
