    BeesNeez Mahalia Condenser Microphone [K6 (K67) Capsule]


    The BeesNeez Mahalia is a large diaphragm tube condenser microphone with 9 polar patterns. The Mahalia has a dual backplate BeesNeez K6 capsule with beveled blind holes that has been designed to give a full range frequency response without being too accentuated in the top end.

    Circuit Design

    The BeesNeez Mahalia has a non-linear feedback topology. Its feedback is provided through tertiary winding in our handmade BV12 transformer. Our stack size in our BV12 is a little larger than the original Neumann. The lamination size is identical to the original. We’ve chosen a bigger stack size to increase the inductance of the secondary, so as to allow a more linear low-end response.

    The capsule in the Mahalia is our world-famous BeesNeez K67 capsule which we call the K6. It is a dual backplate K67-style capsule made identical to the original. Our mylar is 6 micron DuPont that we personally frame, sputter, tune, and fix to the backplate, which we also wholly manufacture.

    The tube in the Mahalia is a NOS EF86. This tube was made famous in the Neumann U67. It has excellent shielding and screening capabilities. When wired as a triode, the EF86 is very linear in its response.

    Sonic Characteristics

    The Mahalia’s sound can be described as silky and refined. It has an extensive high-end, coupled with natural mids and extended lows. The Mahalia uses a circuit not dissimilar to the Neumann U67, using a tertiary feedback to tame the capsule’s stridency [high-frequency].

    Build Quality

    The Mahalia body tube is made from a single piece of cold-formed 380 grade brass tube. We love using the 380 grade brass tube in this particular microphone because the high copper content in the 380 tube provides excellent rejection and shielding. After machining the body, it is sent to a local powder coater for completion. The head grille is cut from bronze cast and machined to a mirror finish. The mesh windows are then removed during the same process before the head grille is sent off for medical-grade nickel plating. The base, like the body tube, is made from 380 grade brass. However, this time it’s a solid brass round that we cut and form in our very own 8-axis turning center. Our proprietary swivel mount connector features a gold-pinned Bakelite socket. Our pins are turned rather than pressed. The advantage here is a lifetime of connection without degradation.
